Pallets. Indispensable product in any storage and transport environment!

At Kruizinga, we have a wide range of pallets, including europallets. A pallet is a kind of platform on which goods can be transported or stored. When buying pallets, it is important to decide in advance what you want to use them for. This is because the material, weight or size may vary. Pallets are available in wood, steel and plastic. These different options allow pallets to be transported by land, sea and even air.

Environments where there is a logistics process, storage or transport need are where pallets are found. Think of distribution centres, warehouses, DIY stores and wholesalers.

At Kruizinga, you have the option of purchasing both: used pallets, new pallets or custom-made pallets.

Smart choices

Various types

A wooden pallet, plastic pallet, metal pallet, aluminium pallet and corrugated board pallets are pallets found in Kruizinga's product range. The pallets can therefore vary in material type, but the size is also a factor to consider. Below, we discuss the different types of pallets.

Wooden pallet

A wooden pallet is a pallet made of wood. The advantage of these pallets is that wood is often a cheaper type of material, making them more economical to buy than other types of pallet. If a wooden pallet breaks down, it is also easy to repair, making the product durable. You should also be aware that a wooden pallet may develop mould spots. When buying a wooden pallet, it is therefore important to store them in a dry and well-ventilated place.

At Kruizinga, we sell nestable wooden pallets and 4-way pallets. A nestable pallet means they can be stacked, saving you as much as 50% storage space. The dimensions of nestable wooden pallets range from 60 x 40 cm with a load capacity of 250 kg to 120 x 100 cm with a load capacity of 900 kg.

A 4-way pallet means there are four gripping options for a pallet truck. Because the pallet consists of a double layer, this type of pallet is also called a block pallet. At Kruizinga, for example, we have a 4-way wooden pallet with a Euronorm size of 1200 x 1000 mm with a load capacity of 1000 kg in our range.

Wood fibre pallet

Wood fibre pallets are pallets made of wood fibres. They are often used in transport and logistics because they are strong and durable. They also have a lower environmental impact than traditional wooden pallets, as they are made from renewable resources and can be recycled when they reach the end of their useful life.

Plastic pallet

A plastic pallet, also called a plastic pallet, are pallets that are easy to clean and are less affected by weather conditions such as rain and sun. Furthermore, plastic pallets are often light, making them easy to transport. Plastic pallets can have different bottoms such as a closed bottom or a grid bottom. The static load of the plastic pallet is often around 3,000 kg.

In addition, plastic pallets also often have a longer lifespan compared to wooden pallets. For this reason, this type of pallet is often found in the food industry. When a plastic pallet is made specifically for the food industry, which therefore includes the food industry, this type of pallet is also called an h1 pallet. H1 pallets are often extra reinforced, which gives them an even longer lifespan and reduces the risk of plastic ending up in food.

At Kruizinga, we also sell plastic pallets in a heavier version. This type weighs no less than 22 kg, allowing heavier goods to be transported. Think, for example, of an IBC container filled with liquid.

Steel pallet

A steel pallet, also known as metal pallets are made of strong material, making them more often used for transporting heavy industrial goods. Compared to other types of material, they have a higher load capacity. A disadvantage, on the other hand, is that metal pallets do have a heavier weight. So when transporting in the warehouse steel pallets, you need to consider whether you have the right machinery and equipment in your company or organisation.

Europallets

Either a wooden, steel or a plastic pallet can fall under the category of europallets. A euro pallet is also known as an EPAL pallet. Euro pallets have a specific agreed size, which is why they are often used for transport. You can read more about them in the following paragraph.

Dimensions and weight

The dimensions and weight of pallets can vary widely. Europallets, also known as EPAL pallets, are the most commonly used. Their dimensions fall under Euronorm. This means that bins and crates can be efficiently placed on the pallets. The pallet size with the base of a euro format is 1200 x 800 mm or 1200 x 1000 mm (dimensions of a standard block pallet).

Both block pallets, and Euronorm pallets can both be lifted on the length/width side.

The weight of a pallet depends on the type of material it is made of. As mentioned in the first paragraph, obviously a steel pallet is many times heavier than a wooden pallet. For instance, a steel pallet can weigh as much as 25 kilograms, while a wooden pallet, on the other hand, weighs a lot less.
